On August 4, 2020, a massive explosion at Beirut's port killed over 200 people, destroyed much of the city's infrastructure, and devastated Lebanon's already fragile economy. The port, one of the Middle East's busiest, was critical to Lebanon's trade and survival during its currency crisis.
